You say it's your birthday?
Today I am 39. THIRTY NINE Ladies and Gentlemen! Alas, the final year of my thirties.
I remember having this incredible TAWANDA! feeling when I turned thirty. I had ARRIVED! Turning thirty somehow felt like the end of being a kid. Particularly in the professional sphere. I think I came into my own in my career in my early thirties. Overall, my thirties up to this point have been action packed.
On top of finally feeling like I found my place in the professional sense, I married a man who is the Webster definition of "your better half," took an 18 month sabbatical and traveled all over the world with him, swam 2,000 butterfly without taking a rest and had two beautiful children. The thirties have been good to me.
The thirty ninth year is off to a good start too. I woke up today to a birthday candle in my scrambled eggs and the two-year old Mayor sang Happy Birthday to me. That made me smile.
The Mayor will always be the best birthday present I ever received. Three years ago I found out I was pregnant with him on my birthday. (I found out I was pregnant with Rooster Girl on Christmas Day so she gets to be the best Christmas present ever.)
Tonight we have a babysitter and we're meeting four other couples out for dinner. Cross your fingers that we do not get any phone calls alerting us to the fact that our children have thrown up all over the house.
I am particularly impressed with the birthday cards this year. The first from my Aunt Nancy is pretty great and demonstrates how well she knows my sense of humor...
(Note to my family - Does that woman look alarmingly like Tomi's mom or what??!!)
My mannered Southern grandparents also managed great sillyness...
A paper pickle!
(A big, plastic pickle might have SERVED me better, but I will make do. Heh. Heh.)
So anyway, hip hip hooray for me and my 39th birthday.
Here I am 38 years ago on my 1st birthday doing what all good one-year olds are supposed to do... covering myself in chocolate cake. (Unlike us, my parents managed to have a working camera on hand.)

Happy birthday to you, someone ALMOST over the hill......*grin*
Happy Birthday! Come on in, the water is fine albeit a little warmer in your 40s. The reason it's a little warmer is I cannot control my bladder. Ha!
I wanted to commend you on how you speak about your husband. It is so refreshing to hear of couples who truly respect and love each other. I am also a very lucky guy who "married out way over his skis."
Happy Birthday!! I like how you describe your thirties...as I am in my early 30's I hope I have your outlook on my 39th! Have a great day!

Now, my husband is a Virgo/you're a Virgo...
That makes Kevin and I organizationally disfunctional friends...
Do you have that great Virgo trait???
You obviously have handsdown the great humour...
But want to know if all your paper clips are in a neat pile?
Just asking in a non Virgo type way..
Happy Birthday! If I were closer, I'd bake you a circus cake - which I think is an apt description of life with small children... I've got one ring, you've got two.
Enjoy your night out, sans interruptions please.
Grandma Seattle would be proud.
Happy Happy Birthday to YOU!!!!!! Those cards were frickin' hilarious, I needed that smile.

The happiest of all belated bdays, fellow wonderful Virgo! And hell, look how hot you are! Sssssss....
By the way, I'm right on your tail, lady...so you'd better leave 39 as nice as it was when you first got there.
I knew that woman on the card reminded me of someone connected t you! Tomi-Lynn's Mom!
Happy Birthday! I'm not far behind you. We should get together for a birthday cappucino. Or Martini, whichever floats your boat. :?)
happy birthday to you. you're impressive. with the butterfly stroke-thing. also, really hot. but HOTTT. your hair is satin and it shimmers. wow.
I hope your husband appreciates. (I know, I know, he does, but I mean - geesh. seriously? you're Hottt.)
Happy Birthday!! Are you always this upbeat? The problem, as I see it, with being in one's thirties is, yes, I do feel more comfortable in my skin, but the downside is that that skin is old and getting wrinkly and hangs off me like an old sack. I like being relaxed, but I don't like the saggy skin. What to do? Don't say surgery. Maybe I shouldn't have married such a young husband, not that he says anything about my saggy skin mind you, it's just when I compare us side by side!!
p.s. last night we went out to dinner to celebrate my bday (on monday) and wouldn't you know our babysitter called to tell me my son was hysterical and in gastric distress. I thought of your post and it helped me feel not alone. Thank you. Oh the Joys indeed.
Lisa
Happy Birthday you hot mama!
As your elder (newly 40), I am here to tell you that this is the new 20! Er, ok, maybe 25. Heck, I'd be ok with 30...
Happy, happy Birthday to you from me!
It's your special day
Whaddya' say? Sing along with me -
HEY!
Sorry I was late. I've been out of town. Hope you had a great day! You don't look a day over 30!
Happy birthday doll!
Your aunt Nancy is halarious. I'm gonna have to use that one!
You: beautiful
Those cards: hysterical
Hope you had a wonderful birthday. Have fun with that pickle!
I'm wishing you a belated Happy Birthday! My husband's birthday is Sept 15 too. Cool.
I also felt like I had finally grown up when I turned 30, I liked it. 40 is freaking me out though, I have four more years but I'm getting nervous.
I love the pictures of you. You are a pretty woman.
Again, Happy Birthday:)
