One for King

On Monday, The Family Joy will join forces with our friends Michael, Elke and their kids to volunteer as a celebration of MLK Day.

While we are committed to honoring the legacy of Dr. King by serving others, it's also true that there's no daycare on Monday and I need a game plan.

I contacted the people at my local Hands On organization to find out what
family friendly MLK Day Service projects they had planned this year.

There was a long list and one was at a local fire station.

Fire station? Did someone say FIRE STATION?

Fire Twins

We're so there.

OTJ- You can also check out your local Library for activities in honor of Dr. MLK Jr. Day... most Libraries aren't closed that day (at least the one I work at isn't... and we have loads of activities planned in honor of the day!)

I don't think I realized how stunning your children are. I'm not surprised, with them having a hot mama like you, but man. Good lookin' kids you've got there, girl. ;)

Have fun at the fire station!

Ah, and I was just planning on lounging around in pj's all day. You mean to tell me that I should plan activities? Darn it.

Off to plan.

What a great way to spend MLK Day. I love the dress-up clothes. Bella would be all over that too.

I will surely burn in hades for admitting this, but the first thing I thought was, "Why isn't OUR daycare closed on Monday?"

Cutie pie kids!

Seriously, it's great that you are setting such a great example for your kids.

Cutest little firefighters ever. You need to give an autographed copy of that to the fire dept.!

Was MLK a fireman at one point? He did so much it's hard to keep track. :)

Fire stations and big red trucks rule.

I love watching my husband and the rest of the guys get all mushy over kids at the fire station. There's nothing more heart warming than seeing these "big, strong, men" acting like idiots and climbing on to the truck to let the kids honk the horn. I think the guys like it more than the kids do, ha ha ha ha!!

That's awesome! I watched the Martin Luther King movie on TV last night and was bawling by the time the hotel scene came on. Such a great man.
