Gamma Attle

The Rooster is really just learning to talk.

She can say quite a bit for 20 months - or at least I think so.

One of her favorite things to talk about - now that she can talk about anything - is Grandma Seattle.

[Only it comes out "Gamma Attle".]

The Rooster loves Grandma Seattle.

Most mornings on the changing table she looks at me and says,

"Gamma Attle!"

"What about Grandma Seattle, Roo?"

"Ina SEE her."

"Yeah. I want to see her too."

Most mornings Rooster plays with the phone in my bedroom and babbles away to Grandma Seattle as if she were on the line.

The other day, as I listened to her daily report to Grandma she said something I have not heard before.

Rooster ambled along in her pretend conversation with Grandma, pausing here and there, responding "yes" and "no" to the various measures of silence on the other end. The, all of a sudden,

"I love you, Gamma."

I smiled and I thought,

"I love her too, Roo."

Happy Mother's Day, Mom.

Much love,
Jessica

Charlie used to call his Grandaddy 'Di-di-dee.' Grandaddy got very sad when Charlie figured out how to say it right.

My mother had originally wanted to be called "Memaw" but Avery turned it into "Mahmoo" somehow.

So cute. We saw a woman who looked like my mom at Old Navy and The Poo yelled "ITS MEEMA!!!!!"

Made me happy and sad all at once.

Happy mother's day, friend.

Aww, that little girl could not be any cuter. I can picture her babling on the phone to an imaginary "Gamma." Happy Mudder's Day!

Grandma Seattle read this and had a great big smile on her face, but then she burst into big sobs because she lives so far away from people she loves so much. I wish we lived closer so I could see you, Rooster, Owen, and K more than the 4 or 5 times a year I see you now. Your blog is the first thing I read every day and a lifeline for helping me feel connected to all of you. Maybe Ruby is listening on the phone to me when she is playing because I'm thinking of her and missing her- which happens frequently. It seems like too long until I see you again. Thank you for this Mother's day treat! It is almost as good as all those kisses you got when you returned from Washington D.C. You remain my treasure. Love, Grandma Seattle

Aww, that is so sweet! She loves her Gamma Attle.

Big H calls his grandfather papo because that's what he started calling him at 18 months. We thought it was so cute, we started calling him that so we could hear for forever!

Happy Mother's Day to you and Jessica! Do not cry Gramma -- you are obviously an important part of her life. She calls you daily! I have WONDERFUL memories of my grandmother and I saw her once or twice a year. We stayed connected through cards, letters, and 2 second phone calls (hey, we were poor and had to limit times).

Wishing you all a wonderful Mother's Day!

My son does that with his Papa (my dad). The comment from Grandma Seattle was so lovely and heartbreaking at the same time....

Our mother was recently honored at a motherhood celebration for a maternity/youth home for pregnant girls (I do volunteer work there).

Since the dinner our son (who was at the dinner & saw her get an award) keeps calling her "Mama of the year!"

So naturally today he said "Happy Mama's Day to the Mama of the year!"

So sweet! Clearly, Gamma Attle is doing something right with Rooster. It's about the quality, not the hours logged! (We don't live close to family either.)

Grandma Seattle's comment made me cry - as I'm sure my mom feels exactly the same way - being far from your Mum is crappy sometimes :(

The last post was too funny, I can be a pouter too, but I would NEVER admit it! As a SAM I do get a little tired of the pseudo celebrity status of Daddy around here sometimes too.
