She was squeaky clean, fresh from the bath when I carried her to the changing table to put her in pajamas.
She laughed and chatted with me while I put her diaper on.
I reached for her pajamas.
"Mommy, I want different pajamas," she said.
I looked at the pair in my hand and wondered how many nights she had worn them.
"Okay," I said.
I pulled a pair of pink footie pajamas out of her dresser drawer and helped her into them.
She looked down at the chest and noticed the pattern of hearts.
"Hearts!" she said.
"Pink one... blue one... yellow one."
She grabbed me by the ears.
"Listen to my heart!" she said.
She hugged my head to her chest and wrapped her arms around it in a mighty hug.
"You are my heart," she said.

I don't think I've ever been the first commenter here before! I shall mark this date upon my calendar.
The Rooster. Boy, that girl is so precious. How did you keep your heart from bursting?
Thank you for the PP nod. I nearly peed myself I was so excited!
Funny how ears are actually handles.
Cheers
Oh, how sweet.
Did you cry when she said that? I would have. So sweet.
*lip quiver*
Oy, my ovaries are doing a hateful mambo right now...
Wow, that was so sincerely sweet. And that photo - priceless.
What a sweet pea!
I miss footie pj's! I just LM's post about becoming a lawyer and it is a great choice.
Oh the sweetness!
It's those moments that you have to cling to as a parent. It is a necessity, almost. You know, to combat going off the deep end when you discover your kid has a whole pack of hubba bubba in his hair after sneaking pieces from a rouge pack of gum hidden under his pillow and falling asleep with it in his mouth.
I think this post should get the Perfect Post Award. I would type more but after reading this...I think I'll go try to make a baby.
where do they learn to be so perfect?
I remember once when K was sick she told me "you are love".
This made me think of that.
Ear make for good handles, huh?
Its great how the least important of tasks like getting our kids dressed can turn into the things we most remember?
That is too, too much for me! She is an absolute sweetie when she wants to be - it sounds like she is feeling better, too.
Awwwww, so very sweet.
*happy sigh*
Makes all those not-so-nice moments seem meaningless, doesn't it?
aww, that made me all squishy inside. In a good way.
Kinda like when Maggie told me that I was her "favorite Mommy of all time"
Owwww. heart hurts now.
As a father that doesn't get to see his children, I am so grateful that you appreciate your time with your children. don't stop the love, you never know when they're not there to do so, anything can happen at anytime. life is a cruel thing.
oh... don't you jsut want to freeze that memory forever! embroider it on pillows, frame it, make a video of it... fantastic1
Aw...she's a doll.
(I love the print of her shirt!)
*sniffly, sniff, sniff, sniff*
Too sweet.
Obviously, I would've melted in a heap. The cuteness, the heartbreaking cuteness. This is why we have kids, right?
Makes you want to gobble her up, eh? How very, very sweet!
Remember this story when she becomes an angst ridden adolescent! ;o)
I'd wager she is your heart, too.
That's what makes being a mommy the best job going.
it's those moments, isn't it...where time stands still and we marvel at how lucky we are.
Aww. The sweetness of it all.
When I say to my son, "I love you," he says, "Mommy, I love you more."
Makes my heart swell every time.
xoxo
Oh, the things they say . . .
thank you for sharing.
"You are my heart."
Now I'm all weepy again.
Oh that is beautiful. Write it down and put it in a book....you need to soak up all that love so you can make it through the dry spell of teen angst. They will still be loving then, but it will be rare - like rain in a drought.
Sometimes I pull out the baby books and smile at the things they said, it makes me like them again even if they are trying to be unlikable!
(ears are handles- LOL Maddy!)
Such a lovely post! Thank you for making me smile!
She's the picture of perfect-ness herself!
Great pick for Perfect Post!
Adorable!
Aw, isn't that all goochie-goo.
this took my breath away. what a precious moment.
Sweet words from a very sweet child. Aren't you glad you're recording them?
"You are my heart"....wow.
So young to be making grown women cry.
That was a good post!!!
Excellent choice my lady.
She's lovely. And so sweet. She must seem even more so, when she has you by the ears and is yanking!
She is so pretty. And sweet. You have to just melt at something like that.
Adorable.
As and Auntie that would LOVE someday to be a Mommy...That was great. I can just hear my youngest Niece saying that.
AHWWWHHHHH

How sweet! They sure know how to melt your heart, mostly because they don't try. They just feel and do.
