Perfect Gifts

In about a month, The Mayor will be four.

My mom called yesterday asking what he might like for his birthday.

Thinking about it today, I emailed K asking for his ideas.

My e-mail looked like this:

Subject: Mayor Birthday Gift Ideas...???

Ikea Bunk Bed?

Chapter Books?

Membership to the Aquarium?

And K, my darling husband's list of ideas came back like this:

Subject: RE: Mayor Birthday Gift Ideas...???

Dar Vader suit (The Mayor's version of Darth)

Jet Eye (What The Mayor thinks is being said when the word "Jedi" is used.)

Giant piece of cinnamon toast

Jar of dill pickles

All-day pajamas

All-season tank tops (fleece-lined and such)

Pet T-Rex

Pet Great White Shark

T-Rex Underwear

Great White Shark Underwear

Dar Vader Underwear

Season tickets to baseball

Weekly haircut

A fire truck

A dog

No one understands a nearly four-year-old boy quite like his father, eh?

I want all day pajamas AND a giant piece of cinnamon toast for *my* birthday too!

That's very sweet. I know a family who gave their girl a ream of blank paper because she loved it so much; another gave a box of tissues for the child to enjoy to the fullest. We do tend to overcomplicate sometimes, I think.

If you guys ever get divorced, I've got dibs on K..

I'd definitely let your husband do the shopping. It will save you a lot of money and The Mayor will be thrilled!

Jed Eye ... classic!! I agree with Natalie, let your husband shop as long as he doesn't get a dog (or a shark) without first consulting you.

That list makes sense to me. It's like when you give babies a present and all they care about is the package it came in. Also, if someone got me cinnamon toast and year round tank tops for my birthday, we'd be the best of friends.

Are you sure he's not going to be five? I can't believe he's only four...what a smartypants that little chicken is!

I love the list. (and we have the IKEA bunk bed and it rocks, btw...)

HA! K rules. Sounds like he may have slipped in a few from his own wishlist...

if you can actually get a Jet Eye, that would be the best present either.

An ex of mine once told me I had Swamp Ass, but that wasn't a gift she appreciated much.

Go K!

I love Jet Eye. ;)

My youngest daughter says Sleeping Booty. I don't have the heart to correct her.

K is great.

And the fleece tank tops? My girlie needs them. Let me know when you find some!

LOL - That's fantastic! I'd like some all-day pajamas, too. :)

Dad's definately know what their boys like. I could buy Bubbie a bag full of gift (crayons, coloring books, flash cards, books...you know educational stuff) and G could buy one item (a bubble machine) and he would rather that. Go figure :)

mmmmmmmmmmm... giant cinnamon toast.

For Christmas when I was 4 my dad bought me a Rebel Speeder from "The Empire Strikes Back".

For himself.

I hardly saw that thing.

The second list looks perfect.

My son would be THRILLED to get a whole jar of his own pickles for his birthday! You should totally do that.

I loved dill pickles so much when I was little I got a jar to myself every year for 5 or 6 years.

Hmmm...I ate that stuff when I was pregnant. Not quite together, but one right after the other . . .

Amen! And I would also like a dog, a giant piece of cinnamon toast, and some Dar Vader underwear. They'd be HAWT!

OMG - that was an awesome reply. Awesome.

Keep this list forever. It is a priceless thing that his father has given him for his fourth b-day - understanding.

The hubs always knows what my boys want too.

Can I make a recommendation??

Mr. 6 just got Swing Ball (I think that's the name) for his b'day and Mr. 4 has been playing it non-stop. It's like tetherball but with a tennis ball and two raquets. It's all self contained and a great outdoor toy.

Are the Season Tickets To Baseball really for the mayor? Hmmmmmmm?

Ah! Memories! Few things are as curious and full of life as a four year old boy. Thanks for the reminder.

What is with the pickle thing? I can get both my girls to eat or try just about anything as long as I promise a pickle after.

That's a great birthday list. I may have to copy it for my birthday. Everyone can use a giant piece of cin. toast.

TEOM said...

Save that list for his 21st birthday...

I'm always curious about deleted comments. I know it's probably just spam but my mind goes to a K's crazied ex-girlfriend leaving a comment full of obscenities. Oh great post.

i would like a giant piece of cinnamon toast, a jar of dill pickles and all-day pajamas. three of each, please. this mayor kid has it right.

That's a pretty sweet list, I must say. K rocks!

JoeinVegas said...

I'd say dad would probably be happy with any of those himself.

My friend Stephanie has the Ikea bunk beds and said her son hates it and says the mattress is really uncomfortable. JUST AN FYI!

Hol&J said...

I second the all day pajamas and the giant piece of cinnamon toast. Two of my favorite things!

And Jet Eye? Love it!

urban-urchin said...

jet eye is awesome- my 3 year old says tana on tana (Hannah Montana- his big sis' fav show) she in turn says she's classtrafeebic for claustrophobic.

I think K's list contains many things I would like for my next birthday- I mean who could resist giant cinnamon toast!

Four year olds are so easy.
Sometimes I'm jealous I'll never get to be the dad.

Boo got an office water cooler for his 6th birthday.

Now he wants a taxi. I am thinking no...

Hope your guy gets his cinnamon toast cause that would be awesome.

Deb said...

I could use an all-season tank top and all-season flip-flops, too. That K is brilliant.

this kicks ass. I'm sending it to my husband right now.
